5. Chuck D
The great thing about Chuck D was that he used his talents as a way to not only express himself but to set an agenda, one that attacked authority and put the focus on trying to “educate” his listeners. Maybe the best thing about Chuck D, however, was that he was able to maintain a serious career as a rapper while having a Public Enemy partner who wore a giant clock around his neck
4. Jay-Z
Some argue that Jay-Z is the greatest emcee of all time, but we’d argue that he’s a product of the times. Still, that doesn’t take away from the spectacular rap career he’s had, let alone the fact that he’s become an icon and business mogul as well—Oh, and marrying Beyonce is a nice get as well! Considering he’s sold well over 25 million albums throughout his career, we have nothing but the utmost respect toward the Hova and his game
3. Rakim
Probably the most underrated rapper of all time; there are many who believe Rakim is in fact the greatest of all time. Known for his work with the rap duo Eric B. and Rakim, he turned the rap game around when he was just 17 years old, bringing “multi-syllabic lyricism to the table.” He may not have the name recognition, but he certainly had the skills
2. 2Pac
Much like the Pepsi vs. Coke debate, you’re either a 2Pac or Biggie fan, not both. It’s a West Coast vs. East Coast debate. I happen to think that 2Pac was a better entertainer, but Biggie was the better rapper. That’s not to take anything away from 2Pac, though. After all, being 2nd on a list of all-time greats isn’t a slight as far as I’m concerned
1. The Notorious B.I.G
Well if you don’t know, now ya know! When it came to the rap game, no one flowed better than Biggie. Nor was there a better storyteller than he was. Again, we can argue all day who was better, Biggie or 2Pac? But, there really is little dispute to the fact that they both stand somewhere at the top of the list of the greatest rappers of all time
